Arrival and departure information for The Coastal Express

We are excited to welcome you on board Hurtigruten!

Below you will find relevant information for the ports where we offer to book transfer services.

Our arrival and departure package includes most transfers in Bergen, Kirkenes, Tromsø and Oslo.

If you have booked one of our arrival and departure packages, or individual transfers, your travel documents will have the vouchers that will be needed to show the transfer drivers. If you require a transfer suitable for wheelchairs, please see the section below for more information.

Please be aware that transfers are unaccompanied and operated by a charter bus with fixed times or an airport express bus which has an official schedule. The timings align with your ship’s time schedule. Therefore, please note that waiting times at the airport may be necessary.

Transfers outside of this schedule must be arranged independently and at your own expense. If your booking doesn’t include any transfers, you can ask about and book the transfers outlined below by contacting our Customer Service Centre. For more information, please refer to your booking confirmation.

From the airport 

The journey from the airport to Jektevik Terminal is approximately 45 minutes. To get to the terminal, take the Flybussen (the official airport shuttle bus) from platform A5 in front of the arrivals hall. From the railway station

After leaving the train, exit the station under the archway on your right. The Tide Transfer Service will be waiting outside. The transfer departs 20 minutes after your train arrives.

Platinum transfers

A private transfer in Bergen will be provided for our Platinum Package guests. At the Bergen airport, the driver of your private transfer will greet you in the arrivals hall to take you to either the port or your hotel, depending on what you have booked.

Please note that a private transfer is not provided from the hotel to the port and that the Flybussen bus, according to the published schedule, will take you from the bus stop to the port. Your voucher for this transfer, if booked, is in your travel documents.

Day of embarkation and at Bergen Jektevik terminal

If you have a hotel night prior to your voyage, please make your way to the bus stop nearest to your hotel and take the Flybussen bus to the Jektevik Terminal. You can use the official timetable to see what time suits you best.

Once at the terminal, check-in and luggage drop-off will be done inside the building. The Hurtigruten Guest Lounge is located on the second floor of Jektevik Terminal and is open from 13:00. You’ll be able to relax in our comfortable lounge, decorated in the same style as our ships for a seamless experience from land to sea. Here is also free Wi-Fi and plugs for both USB chargers and EU standard sockets.

Luggage lockers on the first floor of the terminal of varying sizes are available and can be paid for by credit card. It is possible to drop off your luggage with our Terminal team at the terminal between 13:00 and 14:30, prior to check-in.

Check-in will begin at 15:30 and cabins are ready on board at 18:00.

Once checked in, all guests must attend a safety briefing in the Guest Lounge Lecture Hall.

NB!: Please arrive by 20:00 at the latest for the ship's departure at 20:30.

Departures

Hurtigruten ships arrive back in Bergen at 14:45.

Flybussen buses will be waiting at the terminal to take you to your next stop. The bus will go to the city centre hotels, railway station and airport. You can inquire for more details on board the ship.

To the railway station

If going to the railway station after your voyage, please take the Tide bus waiting at the terminal, marked with a sign for the train station.

If you have a hotel night followed by a train journey, the hotel pick-up is scheduled 45 minutes prior to your train’s departure time. The Tide transfer will be outside your hotel. Please note that there may be a short wait time, depending on how many stops the bus needs to make to pick up other travellers.

Platinum transfers

After your voyage and arrival to Bergen, depending on your booking, a private transfer will take you to the airport from the port.

Please note that a private transfer is not available between the port and hotels, and your voucher for the Flybussen shuttle bus transfer is included in your travel documents. If you have a hotel night in Bergen, a private transfer will pick you up at your hotel 3 hours prior to your flight departure time.

Upgrade to Platinum

Travel in style in Bergen and Trondheim by upgrading to our Platinum package. Platinum guests can enjoy a transfer in a private, wheelchair-accessible car or taxi between the airport, hotels, and pier or terminal. Pick-up time from the hotel to the airport is three hours before your flight’s departure time.

Trondheim

Port address: Pir 1 nr. 7 (HR-kaien)

Currently we do not provide any individual transfers in Trondheim, but there are a few options of getting to and from the airport or port. Taxis (Trønder Taxi), airport express bus (Værness Expressen), or the local R70 train can take you to or from the city centre or port. All services can be paid for by credit card.

Kirkenes

Arrival

NB! We are changing suppliers for transfers in Kirkenes.

  • Up to and including 31 August 2024, Boreal Buss will be the supplier for Kirkenes transfers.

  • As of 1 September 2024, Barents Buss “Flybuss” will be providing the transfers.

Barents Flybuss is the official shuttle express bus in Kirkenes. The bus is easily recognisable by its digital sign displaying “Flybuss” and Barents Buss logo on the side. Click here to see what the bus looks like.

From the airport to the ship/hotel

The Barents shuttle operates from the airport to Thon and Scandic Hotels and then to the port. The departure time from the airport being between 11:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. This schedule is aligned with all Norwegian and SAS flights arriving from and departing to Oslo. Please be aware that these timings are subject to change. Please be sure to have your transfer voucher ready to show the driver.

For evening arrivals to Kirkenes, the Barents bus will depart from the airport at 8:40 p.m. to the Thon Hotel Kirkenes or the Scandic Hotel Kirkenes.

From the hotel to the ship

After the Barents bus leaves the airport, it will then stop at the Thon and Scandic Kirkenes hotels between 11:50 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.. From there, the bus will take you to the port to board your ship.

Snowhotel Kirkenes and Gamme Cabins

If you have booked to join the Snow Hotel or Gamme Cabin pre- or post-programmes, please read the information about your stay and the transfer times on those pages.

Departure

From the ship

When disembarking your ship in Kirkenes, there will be the Barents bus waiting at the port to bring you to the Kirkenes airport or hotel. Click here to see what the bus looks like.

Please note that there is no luggage storage at the Kirkenes port, and all belongings must be taken with you.

The bus will leave the port area at 9:00. The first stops will be to the Thon Kirkenes and Scandic Kirkenes hotels between 9:25 and 9:35, and then the bus will go to the airport. Please be sure to have your transfer voucher ready to show the driver.

Snowhotel Kirkenes and Gamme Cabins

If you have booked to join the Snow Hotel or Gamme Cabin pre- or post-programmes, please read the information about your stay and the transfer times on those pages.

From the hotel to the airport

Barents bus will be at the stop by Thon Hotel Kirkenes and Scandic Hotel Kirkenes between 9:00 and 9:35 and will then proceed to the Kirkenes airport.

Tromsø

Port address: Tromsø Havn, Samuel Arnesensgt. 5 – Prostneset

Arrival and departure

To get between the airport, the city centre, and the Hurtigruten Terminal Prostneset, take the red Bussring (official airport express bus), which departs in front of the arrivals hall. For reference, please click here to see a photo of a Bussring bus.

You can find the transfer times on the official timetable, but these may vary on weekends. The transfer time from the airport to the terminal is approximately 15 minutes, and the closest stop is Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum (130m walk to Prostneset Hurtigruten Terminal).

Oslo

Arrival and departure

In Oslo, the public train, Flytoget Airport Express Train, from the airport to the city centre and vice versa is offered. For those who have pre-booked their Oslo transfer with Hurtigruten, please find the directions below.

From Oslo airport to Oslo Central Station

The transfer ticket is only valid on Flytoget trains FLY1 and FLY2. It cannot be used on regular VY trains.

  • From the airport, access the train platforms from the exit near baggage claim. There are signs after baggage claim to show the way.

  • Scan your QR code at the entrance to the platforms, separately, for each guest on your booking. The QR code sent to you is valid for all persons within the same booking reference and can also be used for the return journey, if booked.

  • The train’s departures are every 10 minutes from platform 3 (subject to change). The journey to Oslo Sentralstasjon (Oslo Central Station) takes about 20 minutes.

From Oslo Central Station to airport

The transfer ticket is only valid on Flytoget trains FLY1 and FLY2. It cannot be used on regular VY trains.

  • From the Oslo Sentralstasjon (Oslo Central Station), the Flytoget trains leave from platforms 13 and 14.

  • Scan the QR code once arriving to the airport to exit the train’s platforms. The QR code sent to you is valid for all persons under the same booking reference and can also be used for the return journey, if booked.

  • The train’s departures are every 10 minutes. The journey to Oslo Gardermoen Airport takes about 20 minutes.

How to get your Flytoget QR code

  • Receiving the code: You’ll find the Flytoget link in an email from Hurtigruten, sent closer to your departure date. Look for "Itinerary Ref:" in the subject line and follow the link within the email.

  • Ticket usage: Your QR code can be used directly from your mobile device or printed out if preferred.

Wheelchair transfers

In Bergen, Kirkenes, and Tromsø, transfers booked with Hurtigruten can accommodate guests using wheelchairs. This service must be pre-booked by informing about measurements, type of wheelchair (foldable, electric, etc), and the specific needs of the guest.

Please note that the scheduled transfers mentioned above have designated bus stops, meaning the service is unable to stop directly in front of hotels/terminals.

Bergen

Foldable wheelchairs are welcome on the Flybussen bus, provided that guests can manage the stairs into the coach on their own.

If needed, separate private transfers for wheelchair users can be booked through Hurtigruten at an additional cost. Please contact us for more information and to book.

Tromsø

If you have booked the transfer in Tromsø with us, please provide us with the information about the size and type of the wheelchair. The Bussring bus will need to be notified in advance to ensure that they have the appropriate bus to take you to your destination.

If needed, separate private transfers for wheelchair users can be booked through Hurtigruten at an additional cost. Please contact us for more information and to book.

Kirkenes

The available Barents bus has space for one foldable wheelchair. Assistance will be provided to help you to a seat on the bus. For other types of wheelchairs, we recommend ordering a taxi in advance through Taxi Kirkenes.

Oslo

For assistance in Oslo in order to use the airport express train Flytoget, please contact [email protected] or call +47 477 70 098 at least 24 hours in advance. This service is free of charge with a valid ticket.
