Port-to-port travel

From Bergen in the south to Kirkenes in the north, we sail to 34 ports in Norway. Our port-to-port trips offer you the chance to create your own unique journey along the Norwegian coast.

Norway has one of the world's longest coastlines, home to a diversity of unique port towns and villages. These fascinating settlements are dotted along the country’s coastline like a string of pearls, each with their own personality and charm. And having sailed this coast since 1893, nobody knows them as well as we do.

For more than 130 years, our world-famous Coastal Express route has been a lifeline for Norwegian coastal communities. From Bergen in the south to Kirkenes in the north, we transport food, medicine, letters, and loved ones to and from 34 ports, connecting the nation together.

And at Hurtigruten, we offer more than just cruises. With our port-to-port journey planner, you can create your own personal itinerary along the Norwegian coast. Whether you want to sail into one of Norway’s iconic fjords, explore an age-old fishing village, or go in search of the Northern Lights, you can choose where you get on and off – with either a one way ticket or a return trip.

You do not need to book a cabin for journeys less than 23 hours, although it is advisable if you are travelling overnight to ensure a comfortable journey.

For journeys longer than 23 hours, it is mandatory to book a cabin. You can do this during the booking process. You can choose the category of your cabin, but not its location on the ship. Note that suites are not available for port-to-port journeys.

To ensure a secure payment process, we recommend making the payment with a debit or credit card through our provided payment link. We accept Visa, Master Card, and American Express.

Yes, you can travel on our ships with your pet. To do so, please book your ticket through our Customer Service Centre on +611300156371. Please note that if you need to book a cabin for your journey, there will be an additional fee of 150 NOK per night for pets.

Embarking and disembarking

Please ensure you bring a valid passport. If you have booked in advance online, please also have your booking number to hand – although there is no need to print your email confirmation.

You need to be at the terminal no later than 30 minutes before departure if you board in Bergen, and 1 hour if you board in Geiranger. For all other ports, you must arrive at least 15 minutes before departure.

During your journey, you are free to disembark and explore the ports we visit at your leisure. You can see our sailing timetable here. Please ensure that you are back on board in time, as the ship cannot wait for late passengers. If you miss your ship, you will need to arrange transport by yourself and at your own expense to the next port on the schedule.

If the ship arrives later than planned, the stay in port will be shorter to keep to schedule. The ship’s departure time will always be clearly displayed in the gangway as you disembark.

Inclusions and add-ons

No, your ticket does not include food and drink. You can purchase full-board (FB) or half-board (HB) meal packages, as well as a la carte meals, during the booking process or when on board.

Click here to read more about our onboard restaurants.

Yes, you are welcome to use the ship’s sauna, gym, and hot tubs while on board. Please note that these facilities are available for an additional fee and can only be booked during your voyage. Click here to see more information about the facilities on each of our ships.
