Listen to a mini-concert by local musicians and sample a local treat for a true taste of Brønnøysund and Helgeland
As we walk through the small coastal town of Brønnøysund, you might be surprised to learn how developments here have influenced you or your ancestors across the world. Notice that the old town centre and the main street aren’t aligned as you’d expect – that's because Hurtigruten played a role in shaping Brønnøysund as the town migrated towards the pier where we dock.
We’ll start with a walk to Sørbyen, the oldest part of town – look out for the blue plaques telling the fascinating stories of the lives and events that unfolded within the houses here.
At this stage the group will split (if required). Half of us will delve into the history of traditional wooden boats. The rest go to discover how the area’s spectacular coastal landscape was formed, at the Trollfjell UNESCO Global Geopark. Then we swap.
We’ll regroup at Brønnøy church, or another nearby historical venue, for a mini-concert with local musicians. There’s a local treat for us before we get back on the ship, too.
