Read the practical information below
Immerse yourself in Norway’s maritime heritage, from the Vikings to the golden days of herring fishing to today’s oil industry
Whizz between the islands in a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) as your captain points out landmarks and tells local stories
Take a guided tour of some of the most important Viking sites in Avaldsnes, Norway’s oldest royal seat
Take to seas that were vital to the Vikings! Our RIB tour will take us to Avaldsnes along Karmsundet, the narrow strait that gave Norway its name: it was once known as Nordvegen, ‘the way to the north’. For more than 3,000 years, the Viking kings ruling here made ships sail this shipping route.
At the Viking Farm, we’ll visit one of the rebuilt Viking houses – the Longhouse. As we sit by the fire, enjoy an authentic Viking snack and hear the enthralling story of how Avaldsnes became Norway’s oldest royal seat. Enter the world of Viking kings, sagas, poems, and a magic that was once as real to people as the physical world is to us today.
As we speed back to our ship, you’ll be able to imagine the strait as the Vikings would have seen it!
