Get ready for an exciting two-hour adventure by quadbike, touring the Kirkenes area, including Norway's border with Russia.
Our guide will meet us at the quay in Kirkenes and demonstrate how to operate the quadbikes safely and responsibly. We’ll then divide into pairs, one per quadbike, and begin making our way on the roads out of the town.
Our first stop is a viewpoint overlooking Sydvaranger iron mine, established in the early 20th century. The guide will give a brief history of the mine, including its capture, destruction, and subsequent reconstruction during and after WWII.
You’ll then head to Skafferhullet, the former Norwegian-Russian border crossing point before it closed in 1966. Here, we’ll take a break and enjoy a hot drink and snack, within view of a few Russian dwellings and a chapel across the border.
On the way back to the ship, we’ll drive up Prestfjellet Mountain to admire the stunning panoramic view.
