Visiting Norway in June
The arrival of summer brings a shift along the Norwegian coast in June. The last of the snow retreats into the mountains. Waterfalls roar to life. The days stretch long and bright. Everything feels fresh, alive and ready.

June is the start of summer as we know it. The fjords fill with light, the waterfalls thunder down the mountainsides, full from the melting snows above. The north glows under the Midnight Sun, stretching the days so long that night hardly appears before morning chases it away again.
June is the month to get outside and explore at your own pace. The whole country buzzes with summer’s arrival, from the sun-soaked coastlines of the south to the wild, untouched landscapes high in the north. The hiking trails are clear, the mountains are open for road trips and the sea is as inviting as ever.
What’s the weather like in June in Norway?
June is a wonderful time to visit Norway. It’s not too hot, not too cold, and the conditions are perfect for outdoor adventures. The further north you go, the longer the days become, with the Midnight Sun shining above the Arctic Circle.

Southern Norway
Summer arrives here first. Days stretch well past 10pm. The air is warm, with temperatures between 59-71.6°F (15-22°C). The coast fills with people. The city harbors, the beaches, the small towns – they all hum with the sound of summer.

Central Norway
The central region thrums with life at this time of year. It's slightly cooler than in the south, with temperatures averaging in the mid teens. Trondheim’s painted wharves catch the soft summer light. Ålesund, a city shaped by the sea, is at its most beautiful.

Northern Norway
Above the Arctic Circle, the Midnight Sun shines. Tourist hotspots like Tromsø, the Lofoten Islands and the North Cape glow under 24-hour sunlight, meaning you can hike, bike or take a scenic drive at any hour. Temperatures hover around 46.4-59°F (8-15°C) – fresh but comfortable for summer adventures.
Why visit Norway in June?
June is made for being outside. For hiking, for cruising the fjords, for moving through our vast landscapes and taking it all in.
Take it slow in Lofoten
The Lofoten Islands in June are something special. The peaks rise sharp and dramatic, the sea stretches endless and blue, and the Midnight Sun never sets. This is the time to kayak through quiet bays, hike to viewpoints that leave you breathless, and wander through fishing villages where rorbuer teeter on stilts above the water.
Take the coastal roads slowly, stopping at white-sand beaches that look as though they belong in the tropics. To experience Norway at its wildest, lightest and most beautiful, join one of our summertime voyages that stop at the beautiful Lofoten towns of Stamsund or Svolvær.

Enjoy a fjord cruise in Geirangerfjord
Our most famous fjord is at its most spectacular in June. The last of the mountain snow melts into cascades that thunder down its steep cliffs. The iconic Seven Sisters waterfall is in full force, mist rising as the water crashes into the fjord below.
Sailing through Geirangerfjord is an experience like no other. The water is deep and still, reflecting the towering peaks above. Tiny mountain farms, many now abandoned, cling to near-vertical slopes, a reminder of the people who once lived in this wild, beautiful place.
From June to August, our Original Coastal Express voyages sail directly into the fjord on the northbound course, offering an unrivalled view of one of the most breathtaking Norwegian fjords.
Go on a road trip
June clears the mountain passes, opening up our most beautiful scenic routes. Drive The Atlantic Road as it weaves over the sea. Cross the Hardangervidda plateau. Wind through Lofoten, with peaks on one side and sea on the other.
Then there’s Trollstigen. Twisting and turning through the mountains, this is a road that feels like it belongs in another world. Drive it slow. Take in the view. Let the beauty of our home sink in.

Chill out at the beach
One of the sunniest cities in Norway, Kristiansand is our summer playground. The sea glistens, the air is warm and the beaches fill with locals stretching out the long summer days. The city’s palm-lined shore feels almost Mediterranean, but the crisp Nordic air keeps it unmistakably Norwegian.
Sailboats glide along the water, finding shelter in quiet coves, while the scent of fresh seafood drifts in from the Fisekbrygga (Fish Market). Festivals spill into the streets, with music and the sound of waves never far away.

Climb Preikestolen
June is the time to lace up your boots and see Norway on foot. Our extensive network of hiking trails, from gentle coastal paths to dramatic mountain climbs, is waiting for you to explore.
For a classic summer hike, head to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock). This well-marked trail winds through pine forests, across wooden walkways and over rocky terrain before revealing its grand finale – a clifftop towering 1,982 feet (604 meters) above Lysefjord. The view is just as breathtaking as the climb itself.

Board the Flåmsbana
For a journey through Norway’s wild beauty without setting foot on a hiking trail, take the Flåmsbana (Flåm Railway). This world-famous train ride climbs from the Aurlandsfjord deep into the mountains, passing gushing waterfalls, verdant valleys and remote farms that cling to impossibly steep slopes.
It’s a slow journey – one that gives you time to take it all in. Take a seat by the window, feel the cool mountain air rush in at each stop, and watch Norway unfold before you. You can experience the Flåm Railway on one of our Norway in a Nutshell programmes.
