Cafe
Beverages, sandwiches and hot and cold dishes are available. Normally open 24-hours a day. On some departures the catering service at night will be managed by the reception of the ship.
Cars
Further information about vehicles and parking at ports is available from Hurtigruten. Access to the vehicle deck is only permitted when the ship is moored up alongside.
Checking in Bergen
The terminal is open daily from 1300 hrs for baggage delivery. Checking in commences at 1500 hrs and embarkation commences at 1600 hrs. Please see the sailing schedule for other ports.
Checking out
Checking out of cabins is in accordance with the change of cabin day as stated in Hurtigruten timetable. See page 14 for examples. Checking out Bergen at 10.00 Checking out Kirkenes at 09.00.
Credit cards/currency
VISA, American Express, Eurocard, Diners Club and JBC International, plus most currencies.
Cruisecard
We recommend that our passengers acquire a cruise card to make payments on board. This card can be used to make payments throughout the ship. We accept all credit cards or cash as a deposit.
Diets
Special diets, such as vegetarian for example, must be ordered well before departure.
Disabled guest
All ships, except MS Lofoten and MS Nordstjernen have lifts and cabins for disabled guests. People with severe disabilities, or who are unable to take care of themselves, must be accompanied by a carer.
Drinks
The ships are fully licensed.
Electricity
220 V AC. A European adaptor is required.
Fitness room/sauna
Available on board except on board MS Vesterålen, MS Nordstjernen and MS Lofoten.
Internet access
All ships, except the MS Nordstjernen and MS Lofoten, offer Internet access for a small charge. There are at least two Internet café PCs on board and at least one wireless zone. Wireless coverage on board may vary from ship to ship and can only be guaranteed in the conference area. There is no Internet access in the cabins. Please contact Reception if you wish to purchase access to the Internet.
Laundry
Most ships have laundries with washing machines and tumble dryers except MS Lofoten and MS Nordstjernen. Tokens can be bought from the reception.
Luggage
A daily baggage service is available in Bergen from 1 April to 30 September 2009, from the airport and selected city-centre hotels to the Hurtigruten terminal. For groups, luggage handling must be agreed with Hurtigruten prior to travel. We recommend taking 2 small suitcases rather than one large one.
Meals
Meals are served at set times in the restaurant. In high season, mealtimes may vary during the season if there are several sittings. A breakfast buffet with a wide selection of food, usually served between 07.00-10.00. Large buffet with hot and cold dishes and dessert, usually served between 11.30-14.30. 3-course dinner, usually served at 18.30-21.00. The evening buffet in Bergen is usually served between 1800 and 2130 hrs. Exact meal times are provided on board. The exact hours for meals is given on board.
Noise
As the ships are working ships which call at ports at all hours there might be some noise, particularly when loading and unloading.
Pets
It is recommended that pets are not brought along on long journeys. Special rules apply to the transport of animals. Contact us for further information. We welcome guide dogs on board.
Pharmacy/doctor
As there are only short distances between ports, there is neither a doctor nor a pharmacy on board.
Playroom
Most ships have a playroom except MS Lofoten, MS Nordstjernen, MS Midnatsol og MS Trollfjord.
Remember
Don’t forget to bring your binoculars, camera and a video camera. Take practical, warm and windproof clothing for going out on deck. Smart, but casual clothes are worn on board. Good footwear is vital for excursions.
Shop
Souvenirs, knitwear, postcards, video tapes of the journey, stamps and toiletries are for sale from the separate shop or the cafeteria.
Swimming pool/ jacuzzi
Only the MS Finnmarken has an outdoor swimming pool. Outdoor jacuzzi on MS, FM, TF, NK, NN and RW. Can be closed occasionally in the winter season.
Safety regulations
For reasons of safety it may sometimes be necessary to keep cabin ventilators/ portholes closed.
Sick bay
Found on board except on board MS Vesterålen, MS Nordstjernen og MS Lofoten.
Spa
MS Finnmarken has cosmetologist, massage and hairdresser facilities on board. Gift vouchers can be ordered in advance along with the trip.
Telephone and fax
All ships have payphones and fax. There is generally good coverage for mobile telephones.
Tour leader
There is a tour leader on board all year round. On some departures this service is managed by the reception. External tour leaders (groups) are requested to contact the reception for information on practical details.
Transfer
We can offer transfer in Bergen, Trondheim and Kirkenes.
Valuables
There is a safe in the reception. Hurtigruten accept no responsibility for valuables and money kept in the cabin.
Wake-up calls
When arriving at night, disembarking passengers are woken between 30 minutes and 1 hour before arrival.
Weather and climate
Temperatures usually vary between 2°C and -10°C in winter. Summer temperatures in northern Norway vary between 10°C and 30°C depending on the latitude.
