James McArthur

James, a dynamic leader with a penchant for adventure, joined Hurtigruten Group as the CFO in 2023. 

With a Master of Finance from the University of Melbourne (Australia) and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Saint Louis (United States), James started his career in Investment Banking at UBS AG, primarily supporting private equity clients in Sydney, London, and the United States. Since then, he has led teams in strategy, M&A, finance and Country CEO roles, recently spearheading initiatives across Europe and the United States for a leading multinational healthcare group. 

Growing up on a large family agricultural property in Southern Australia, James is passionate about the outdoors, wildlife and environmental conservation. An avid skier and adventurer, he recently gained certification in backcountry ski touring and avalanche rescue, enabling safe exploration of new expedition and mountaineering routes. James also competed as a professional tennis player after graduating from university in the United States.  

James plays a critical role in leading the Group's ESG strategy and company-wide focus on emissions, nature, community and people. He is married with two young children and currently based in London.
